Style Guide for Grooms & Groomsmen

Your wedding is one of the most important and turning life events in your life. Of course, you would want to make it a perfect one for both of you and your bride. At a wedding, your friends, families, and closest colleagues would be there to witness the special day. Indeed, you would like to look good in your wedding photos along with your partner and groomsmen. Your wedding outfit would play a significant role in these photos. However, choosing the appropriate and perfect attire for your wedding could impose some difficulty.

Like how your wedding day should be meticulously planned, your attire also requires attention. Choose carefully what you should wear in front of the altar while marrying the person you love. You would also want to put careful research about some essential tips for grooms and be the most handsome man on your day. The venue also plays an important role in making your decision. Should you go in a tuxedo or suit? Should you go for a bow tie or necktie? What color would your attire be? While marrying your bride already makes the day extremely special, you would like to consider your outfit in accordance with the motif and your groomsmen.

Doing so would be a struggle. But here are some do’s and dont’s in planning and styling your attire as a groom or groomsman:

  • Fit the formality

It goes without saying that your attire should complement the wedding theme and its venue. Planning with your fiance about the wedding formality is advised. Would the wedding be formal? Then, it is better to wear a tuxedo. If you decided to have a semi-formal wedding for your special day, a dark-colored suit with a white inner garment would be perfect. It is also best to consider the venue and the time of the wedding to choose the color of your attire.

  • Dress to your body type

Believe it or not, even with the most elegant attire could throw an off look if it is not according to your body type. Always tailor your clothing to your body frame to have the best and sharpest look on your wedding day. A tall and slim man would look perfect wearing tuxedos and suits. To have a taller appearance, a two- or three-button jacket with a low button could add you some height. There are also ways to style a broader or slim look. Always make sure that the attire is perfectly fit for you, and wear the best styles for groom attire. There should be no uncomfortable feeling when you wear your suit or tuxedo and should allow you to move around easily.

  • Harmonize with the style of other groomsmen and the groom

If you’re the groom, wearing an attire that would complement your groomsmen’s attire would be great, but make sure to stand out. The same goes if you’re attending a wedding as one of the groomsmen. It is pretty standard in weddings that the groom and his groomsmen wear similar attire. However, that is not always the case, and it is perfectly fine to have it the other way. But matching and complementing each other’s appearance in the event would be one of the best ways to make the event more memorable. You can also opt to match your outfit with your partner in the event. If you’re the groom, have a similar outfit that would complement the wedding dress of your fiance. Groomsmen would match their attire with the bridesmaids.

  • . Pick the correct accessories

Your accessories also play an important role to look good in photos and in person. It adds style and details to your appearance as a groom or as the groomsman. Picking the correct accessory that matches your attire would take your style to the next level and make you more handsome. Be careful to choose the right accessory that would help differentiate you from other invited men in the event.

  • Don’t wear a belt for a tuxedo

Do not try to enhance your tuxedo with a belt because it would only throw your attire off. This is already popular knowledge in preparing an attire for the groom and groomsmen, but it would not hurt reminding you again. You can wear a cummerbund or vest to pair with your tuxedo but never wear a belt. Another styling guide for grooms and groomsmen is not to wear a suspender and belt in the same outfit.

  • Don’t choose unusual colors

If you’re the groom, choose a color set that matches your bride, or simply follow the wedding theme. If you’re one of the groomsmen, you can base the color of your attire on the bridesmaid’s gowns. Do not opt for random set colors whether they’re in the same color family or not. Always match your attire, including its color, to the event.

  • Don’t put too many accessories

A one or two accessories would already be great. Adding too many details to your attire can make your whole outfit look really overwhelming. Also, do not choose an accessory that would make you and other men in the event identical to each other. The groom should wear an accessory that will stand out among others and still complement the attendants.

Quick recap

Your wedding should be a perfect one because it is one of the most important events in your life. Try to make an attire plan with your partner and research styling tips for groom and bride. Attending such a special event is also special because you get to witness the romantic magic of love. Your wedding attire can make or break your appearance, so it is best to make it perfect.
